Napalm Death are a long-standing English grindcore / death metal band. They formed in the village of Meriden near Birmingham, England in 1982 by Nicholas Bullen and Miles Ratledge. Although other groups had previously played fast and aggressive music with a similar style, Napalm Death are credited with defining the grindcore genre through their blend of post-punk, hardcore punk and metal musical structures, aggressive playing, fast tempos, and deep guttural vocals. The group coined the term 'Grind' to describe the music they played with particular reference to the sound of American post-punk group Swans. There are no original members left in the band. The early history of the band is one of constant member rotation: the group did not contain any original members by the time of the recording of the second side of their debut album Scum in 1987. Napalm Death are listed by Nielsen Soundscan as the seventh best-selling death metal band in the United States

Novembre is a Progressive Death metal/Gothic metal band from Rome, Italy.Starting out in 1990 as an Italian death metal band (then called Catacomb), Novembre grew to develop a unique, atmospheric sound. They released their first two albums through Italian label Polyphemus, and in the mid-'90's they signed with Century Media, and released their next three albums through it. More recently, Novembre signed to Peaceville Records, and have recently released their seventh full-length, titled The Blue.

Nemesea is a Dutch female-fronted rock band, formed in 2002 in Groningen. Their musical style has been compared to that of After ForeverThe band was founded by vocalist Manda Ophuis and guitar player Hendrik Jan de Jong in September 2002 in Groningen, The Netherlands. In April 2003 the band had their first performance as support act for After Forever, and remained that band's support for a year. They attracted record company interest and signed for small Dutch label Ebony Tears in November 2003. In November 2004 Nemesea released their debut album Mana (meaning 'the magical power of things, given by the gods'), and they later toured the Netherlands and Belgium until December 2005. By this time they were well established in the Nordic European gothic/symphonic metal scene. For their second album, Nemesea had talks with some major record labels, but they later decided to sign up to the Dutch crowdsourcing website Sellaband. They were the first band to raise more than $50,000 from the fans, and the album, called In Control, was released on June 21, 2007. A distribution deal was made with Rough Trade Records to bring the new album to music stores in Benelux on October 26, 2007. Also the band signed a booking deal with Dutch agent AT Productions and found a new manager in David Arden, brother of Sharon Osbourne and former manager of James Brown.

Nightwish is a Finnish symphonic power metal quintet, formed in 1996 in the town of Kitee, Finland. Nightwish is considered one of the bands responsible for the development and rise in popularity of symphonic metal at the end of the 1990s, as well as the creation of the subgenre symphonic power metal. Although they have been prominent in their home country since the release of their first single, “The Carpenter” (1997) and debut album Angels Fall First, they did not achieve worldwide fame until the release of the albums Oceanborn and Wishmaster, which were released in 1998 and 2000 respectively. Their 2004 album, Once, led to Nightwish video clips being shown on MTV in the United States and inclusion of their music in U.S. movie soundtracks. Their biggest U.S. hit single, “Wish I Had an Angel” (2004), made it onto three U.S. film soundtracks as a means to promote their North American tour. The band produced three more singles and two music videos for the album, as well as “Sleeping Sun”, from the 2005 “best of” compilation album, Highest Hopes, prior to vocalist Tarja Turunen’s dismissal.
In May, 2007, former Alyson Avenue frontwoman, Swede Anette Olzon, was revealed as Turunen’s replacement, and in the autumn, the band released a new album Dark Passion Play, for which the band is currently touring.

Nirvana was an American rock band that was formed by singer/guitarist Kurt Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic in Aberdeen, Washington. Nirvana went through a succession of drummers, the longest-lasting being Dave Grohl, who joined the band in 1990.
With the lead single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" from the group's second album Nevermind (1991), Nirvana entered into the mainstream, bringing along with it a subgenre of alternative rock called grunge. Other Seattle grunge bands such as Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden also gained popularity, and, as a result, alternative rock became a dominant genre on radio and music television in the United States during the early-to-middle 1990s. As Nirvana's frontman, Kurt Cobain found himself referred to in the media as the "spokesman of a generation", with Nirvana the "flagship band" of "Generation X". Cobain was uncomfortable with the attention and placed his focus on the band's music, challenging the band's audience with its third studio album In Utero (1993).
Nirvana's brief run ended with Cobain's death in April 1994, but the band's popularity continued in the years that followed. In 2002, "You Know You're Right", an unfinished demo from the band's final recording session, topped radio playlists around the world. Since their debut, the band has sold over fifty million albums worldwide. Nirvana are often credited with being one of the most popular and important rock bands of recent years.

Nonpoint is a four-piece nu metal group originating from Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Nonpoint was formed in January 1997. The band is led by vocalist Elias Soriano, guitarist Andrew Goldman, bassist Kenneth "KB" Charman and drummer Robb Rivera. The band created a name for itself in the burgeoning South Florida metal scene of the mid-late '90s. Other notable bands to emerge included Puya, Endo, Darwin's Waiting Room, Lost and The Groovenics. Nonpoint's first album Separate Yourself was released independently in 1997. The band's first commercially released album Struggle was released on May 18, 1999 on the now defunct Jugular Records.

Nevermore is an American metal band from Seattle, Washington assembled in 1991 from the ashes of the power metal band Sanctuary. The band incorporates elements from styles such as thrash, death, progressive and even neo-classical metal into their songs, and also makes use of acoustic guitars and a wide range of vocal styles.
Nevermore incorporates elements from a variety of genres, which makes it difficult to categorize Nevermore's music. Their sound includes elements of power metal, thrash metal, progressive metal, traditional heavy metal, amongst others. They also have used death metal traits such as low tuned and fast paced riffing, and the 2005 record This Godless Endeavor occasionally featured vocals clearly influenced by death metal. The press have used several other genres to describe Nevermore's sound including groove metal, technical speed metal, technical thrash metal, progressive power/thrash metal, death/thrash metal, and melodic thrash metal. In an interview at Metalmania in 2006 singer Warrel Dane doesn't explicitly disagree with the many genres the band has been put in over the years, but he does however say "I don't think we're power metal."
